Homework is an important part of learning and there are tasks in Year 1 that we ask children to complete to help them progress in their learning.

We ask that all children:

  • Spend time reading at home and record this in your Reading Journal – this could be a Book Band reading book from school or something else that you like to read (a library book, a novel from a series you like, a magazine or comic on sports or gaming or ANYTHING else!) We ask children to read a few pages, every night where possible.

  • Spend time learning your Multiplication Tables – you will be tested on these in school and will be expected to know the division facts associated with the times tables too. These will help you in all of your maths activities. The times tables that we learn in year 1 are the 10s, 2s and 5s.

  • Spend time practising your spellings – when you are given a spelling list in school it is important that you take the time to learn how to spell the words on it correcty.  See the 'Phonics tab' on our class page to find this week's spellings.

  • If you would like to complete additional tasks at home we have our online programmes called IDL for English activities, and we will be getting IDM for Maths activities in 2018. You can logon, and the programme will set a range of modules which are appropriate to develop your learning and skills further.
