In our school, we understand the importance of our pupils being able to write well.

From some of our youngest pupils in Nursery and Reception to our oldest pupils in Year 6, we do writing across the curriculum for lots of different reasons.

These are some of the things we write:

stories                       poems                    letters                       diary entries                 discussions

recounts                    instructions            descriptions              playscripts          newspaper reports

In the 2014 National Curriculum, the Government have specified particular words which they believe it is important for children to be able to spell at different ages. There are suggested words for Years 1 and 2 but word lists provided for Years 3 and 4; Years 5 and 6. These word lists are available by clicking on the links on this page. Please practise these words at home with your children and encourage your children to use these words within their writing: in their homework and school work.
