Why Mental Health Matters

Your child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health. Good mental wellbeing helps children feel confident, cope with challenges, and build positive relationships.

Simple Strategies You Can Use at Home

  • Talk and Listen: Create a specific time to talk – perhaps not just before bed, as worries can grow with time to think. Encourage your child to share their feelings. Listen without judgment and reassure them that it’s okay to feel sad, worried, or frustrated.
  • Create Routines: Regular sleep, healthy meals, and time for play help children feel secure.
  • Limit Screen Time: Balance online activities with outdoor play and family time.
  • Praise Effort, Not Just Results: This builds confidence and resilience.
  • Teach Calming Techniques: Deep breathing, drawing, or taking short breaks can help when they feel overwhelmed.

Signs Your Child May Need Extra Support

  • Persistent sadness or worry.
  • Withdrawal from friends or activities.
  • Sudden changes in sleep or appetite.
  • Frequent headaches or stomach aches.

If you notice these signs, seek help early.
